Four finalists made it to the finals of the Start Summiteer Award. Exnaton’s pitch impressed the jury, winning the 2022 Start Summiteer award. The Zurich based startup developed a software platform for utility companies to allow communities to buy and sell renewable energy.
The first hybrid Start Summit event took place successfully with more than 2500 startups, investors, corporates and young talents participants on-site in St. Gallen and over 1000 online – various countries across Europe were represented. Keynote speeches, workshops, panel talks and fireside chats enlighted the audience on current technology trends and topics, including cybersecurity, fundraising, diversity, the startup ecosystem. Additionally, thriving founders also shared their insights on their journey to inspire aspiring founders.
The event culminated with the flagship Start Summiteer Award presentation in which the finalists, Equalicert, Exnaton, Witty Works, and Nerite pitched to the audience and the jury. Swiss startup Exnaton impressed the jury most with the technology and advancements, taking home a cash prize of CHF 10’000, a mentorship voucher and a Breitling watch to recognise their achievements.
Founded in 2020, Exnaton has built a B2B2C software platform, PowerQuartier, to empower utility companies to offer new services around renewables to their customers – private households and businesses. The first use case is the introduction of energy communities that enable individuals to buy green electricity directly from their neighbours who own solar systems. Additionally, the platform offers personalised analyses and remote access to resources like battery storage, providing users insight into their household energy consumption. Exnaton today serves 11 utility customers in four countries. The solution is also integrated into the SAP for Utility store.
HSG Founder of the year Award
Hosted by theStartup@HSG of the University of St. Gallen, the Founder of the Year Award recognises an entrepreneur and alumni of the University whose solution has positively impacted the economy, society and environment. This year’s award went to Raffael Wohlgensinger, founder of Formo. After his studies at the University of St. Gallen, Raffael founded and incorporated Formo in 2019 in Berlin to reimagine how and for whom the food system works. The startup makes milk proteins using microorganisms. Combining precision-fermentation made dairy proteins with artisanal, age-old techniques, the startup makes decadent cheese, thereby reducing the use of animal products.
