ESA and ASTROCAST will collaborate on putting a nano-satellite in orbit by the beginning of next year to demonstrate low cost global M2M communication service. ASTROCAST is the core project of the Swiss startup ELSE.

ASTROCAST and the European Space Agency ESA will collaborate under the ESA ARTES program. The program comes with a 2 million euros financial support and ESA's space expertise. The launch will be either on SpaceX falcon 9, or ISRO's PSLV.

As a prelude to a constellation of nano-satellites for a global low cost M2M communication service, this technology demonstrator is intended for validating key technologies with the support from ESA.

After the successful technology demonstration and service validation by pilot users, ASTROCAST will launch a constellation of 8 satellites to fully commercialize the service by beginning of 2019. ASTROCAST has received a strong interest from a wide variety of customers and has reached close to 1 million subscriptions mark.

With the miniaturization now knocking the doors, space is ready to be commercialized. And ASTROCAST which is at the forefront of space innovation is ready to play its part in the global arena.

ASTROCAST is the core project of ELSE, a Swiss-based, privately owned start-up, created in 2014. ASTROCAST is based on a constellation of 64 nano-satellites to be launched on a Low-Earth Orbit (LEO). The goal is to offer global Machine-to-Machine communication services for global businesses at the lowest cost in the industry. The ELSE team has also been involved in the creation of Switzerland's first satellite - SwissCube, as well as numerous other highly-advanced projects in the space arena such as those that have been undertaken with the ESA (10 missions), other satellite missions, the EPFL, the Swiss watch industry and the Swiss transportation industry.
