Cleantech startup Enerdrape is developing the first panel-like technology to capture geothermal and residual heat from underground environments. Thanks to the fresh funds from Venture Kick, the startup is now set to advance its heating and cooling solutions for smart cities.

Fifty percent of the energy consumed in Europe is used for the heating and cooling of buildings and contributes to 40% of CO2 emissions. Increasingly, the supply of renewable thermal energy for new and existing buildings is a priority. However, high costs, complex installation processes, and a lack of efficient renewable heat sources limit the energy transition of buildings and cities.

Incorporated in 2021 and co-founded by Margaux Peltier (CEO), Alessandro Rotta Loria (CTO), and L. Laloui (key advisor), Enerdrape developed a patented panel that diversifies, simplifies, and enlarges access to shallow geothermal energy potential as a renewable heat source for cities. Through their solution, the startup provides the first modular, prefabricated and scalable geothermal panel technology that allows turning all new and existing underground infrastructures into renewable sources for buildings’ heating and cooling needs.

With this solution, the EPFL spin-off based in Lausanne offers energy professionals and building owners a low-carbon, cost-competitive, and easy-to-install solution to increase the use of on-site renewables and ultimately save CO2 emissions. Enerdrape will first target underground car park applications and the commercial segment, which results in a potential market of CHF 40 million in Europe. However, when expanded to other market segments (such as residential and other technology applications), the market is predicted to reach CHF 20 billion globally.

After winning the Startup Champions Seed Night at EPFL in April, the startup has triumphed in the Venture kick competition, winning CHF 150,000 to advance pilot developments, close partnership deals and expand the team.

“Venture Kick provided us with extensive visibility and support to grow our network and find a path in the value chain. The kicks from Jordi at the Kickers Camp was memorable and very helpful! Venture Kick laid the foundation for our future market entry with a solid pipeline with relevant partners and customers,” said Margaux Peltier, Enerdrape co-founder and CEO.
