Embion and Proton awarded as Technology Pioneer by World Economic Forum

The World Economic Forum announced its selection of the 100 most promising Technology Pioneers of 2022 - companies tackling issues from sustainability and climate change to healthcare and more. Among the winners are two companies from Switzerland.

The World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers are early to growth-stage companies from around the world that are involved in the use of new technologies and innovation that are poised to have a significant impact on business and society. This year’s cohort includes representation from 30 economies on six continents with reach far beyond traditional tech hubs like Silicon Valley The diversity of these companies extends to their innovations as well. This year’s Tech Pioneer firms are shaping the future by advancing technologies such as AI, IoT, robotics, blockchain, biotechnology and many more. 

Technology Pioneers have been selected based on the community’s selection criteria, which includes innovation, impact and leadership as well as the company’s relevance with the World Economic Forum’s Platforms. From Switzerland Embion and Proton have been selected.

Embion Technologies enables the production of highly functional ingredients from biomass for animal nutrition, food and beverages, nutraceuticals, cosmetics and beyond. “It’s a great honor to be acknowledged as a pioneering company by the World Economic Forum,” said Embion’s Georgios Savoglidis. “It is confirmation that the speed of technology development, commercialization and consumer adoption are pushing the wheels of innovation and that our platform technology can offer a new production method that provides for pure and stable products from a renewable source. Products that represent a new frontier in nutrition and health. We look forward to contributing to the Forum dialogues on this challenge.” 

Proton was started in Switzerland in 2014 by scientists who met at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Its vision is to build an internet where privacy is the default through an ecosystem of services accessible to everyone, everywhere, every day. Over 50 million people from over 180 countries have signed up to use Proton products such as ProtonMail, ProtonVPN and Proton Drive.

A third Technology Pioneer has a clear connection to Switzerland. Pula Advisors, a company headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, is incorporated in the Canton of Glarus. Pula is an insurance and technology company that provides comprehensive insurance solutions to smallholder farmers.
