Alphacruncher, offering a cloud-based platform for teaching and scientific research, is set for global expansion after completing a CHF 1.5 seed investment round. The expansion builds on the company’s success in the DACH region.

Founded in 2019, Alphacruncher was established with the goal to give researchers and students easy access to cloud technologies. Its product Nuvolos creates novel and simplified workflows in digital education and research. Through Nuvolos, faculty and students work with real data and gain hands-on experience directly in the browser to develop the skills they need for the future, including programming, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork.

Furthermore, Nuvolos advances scientific research and teaching by allowing institutions to host all of their subscription datasets, making them available to affiliated members and providing them with a strong basis for their computational needs, all immediately accessible from a browser. This way, scientists can focus on their research area, students can learn in a stimulating way, and institutions save significant resources in the process.

"Our core objective is to boost scientific research and education by integrating cutting edge advances in computation, data and cloud technologies. By doing this, people can focus on their area of research expertise, students can learn in more engaging ways, and facilities can ultimately save resources,” Alexandru Popescu, Co-Founder and CEO of Alphacruncher

Already active in Switzerland, Germany and Austria, the platform researchers at institutions such as the University of Geneva, University of St. Gallen, University of Paris or Università della Svizzera italiana, use the platform.

With a new round of investment, Alphacruncher aims to build its platform on a global scale. Led by Alpine Group, the startup raised CHF 1.5 million seed capital with contributions from experienced investors such as NGM, private investors and existing users. The capital will flow into building and expanding the sales and marketing teams.
