This new destination in China was chosen for its strategic geographical location. “Located in the immediate vicinity of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Guangzhou is a major transport and trade hub in China and internationally, offering tremendous advantages in terms of technical and industrial cooperation,” explained Felix Moesner, CEO of swissnex China, Innosuisse’s local partner. “This is an opportunity for our start-ups to gain access to a very dynamic market in Guangdong Bay which has a population of 70 million,” added Marcel Felder, scientific officer in charge of the programme at Innosuisse.
There is a strong demand for this type of service abroad. In 2018, 50 start-ups took part in a camp, which represents a 70% increase compared to 2017. The West Coast of the USA with San Francisco and India with Bangalore are currently the most popular destinations. In view of the programme’s success, Innosuisse does not intend to stop there. “Internationalisation is becoming increasingly important for start-ups. Our aim is to increase the overall number of places available and to provide an even greater choice of destinations from next year,” indicated Marcel Felder.
Innosuisse’s ‘internationalisation camps’ programme is aimed at start-ups that are currently undertaking a coaching programme. It aims to provide them with the support required for their presence locally as well as ways of developing abroad and dealing with an international market.
“swissnex China has been giving us tremendous support for our market entry during the last year. Their team is very dynamic and responsive, with a strong willingness to help us progress. This support is key to launch our business activities in China and get a better understanding of the ecosystem.”
