World Tourism Forum opens registration for the Start-Up Innovation Camp 2017

The World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTL) is awarding the most innovative and creative business ideas in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Selected startups will present before the audience and the winner will be awarded with the Start-up Innovation Award of CHF 20’000. Registration is now open.

For the second time start-ups have the chance to participate in the Startup Innovation Award, organised within the framework of the World Tourism Forum Luzern (WTFL). 16 finalists – four in each of the four categories: destination, hospitality, impact and transaction – that have an innovative business models from around the world will be selected. They will be invited to attend a full-day workshop (innovation startup camp) in order to grow in their roles as business leaders and to receive valuable advice from experienced coaches. They will present their concepts to the WTFL audience in a five-minute presentation after which a winner will be determined.

The winner will receive a cash prize of CHF 20’000 and will participate in the coaching programme over the next 2 years. Moreover, the winner will enjoy “5 Minutes of Fame” at World Tourism Forum Lucerne.

Eligible to apply are startups not older than five years, have an existing product and first sales, and an international vision and ambition or create a significant impact in their region. Registration for the award is open

The World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTFL) will take place for the fifth time from the 4 - 5 May 2017 at KKL Culture and Convention Centre Luzern under the theme of 2017 "stay relevant in uncertain times.” An audience of  more than 600 participants comprising of Ministers, CEOs, Industry leaders, Investors, and Academia from over 70 countires are expected to attend. Like every two years the Forum has invited top decision makers as Forum speakers. Among them are: the branding expert Simon Anholt who has already advised more than 50 countries on their "Competitive Identity", the best-selling author Jason Fox, on how to achieve more meaningful progress, John Perrottet, senior Tourism specialist at World bank, Jürg Schmid, CEO Switzerland Tourism with the keynote on “The Swiss Way to Stay Relevant", Ambassador Dho Young-Shim, member of the UN Sustainability Development Goals Advocacy Group, among others.

Some of the major players in the tourism industry and related sectors of economics, politics, finance and science will gather at Hotel Astoria to discuss the challenges and changes in global tourism and travel. These were identified from two surveys conducted in collaboration with Korn Ferry and Bridge.Over exploring “how the Hospitality sector can ensure it attracts and retains Millennials”. During the discussions they will propose solutions aimed at strengthening the tourism industry.
