The start-up competition »venture» supports young entrepreneurs with prize money but also with coaches, feedback, events and assisted patent searches. Particpants can now register and profit immediately from the support.

»venture» 2017 – like previous »venture» editions – aims to put to use untapped innovation potential by encouraging young entrepreneurs to develop a business idea into a start-up company. The competition is for budding entrepreneurs in Switzerland who have innovative business ideas. In the business idea competition, participants develop and submit a business idea in the form of an Executive Summary, which focuses on customer benefit and on the market. The five best proposals will be awarded start-up consulting powered by McKinsey & Company, as well as total prize money of CHF 40'000. In the business plan competition, participants prepare and submit their business plans. The authors of the best plans will be invited to present them to the jury. The total prize money is CHF 120'000; the best presentation will be awarded CHF 60'000.

In addition, experienced coaches support competition participants in the development of their business idea or the preparation of their business plans and in the search for suitable partners and the necessary capital.

Participants also receive feedback from the team of highly qualified jurors. The more than 100 jurors belong to one of two groups: entrepreneurs, who evaluate the formal and business aspects of an idea, and investors, who evaluate its financial attractiveness. »venture» 2017 offers a start-up consulting package powered by McKinsey & Company, as well as total prize money of CHF 40'000 for the winners of the business idea competition and total prize money of CHF 120'000 for the winning business plans.

Participants receive additional support in the form of various events, to widen their network and sharpen their business ideas. The Kick Off Events will take place on 13 February in Lausanne and on 16 February in Zurich.

Assisted free patent search
Participants who register now can already benefit from support of the Intellectual Property Institute. Entrepreneurs will gain some insight together with a patent expert over the course of a day. First of all, the expert from the technical field of the start-up will answer questions about protecting the innovations. Then together the founder and the expert will look at how new the idea or invention is by searching in various patent databases for similar or identical inventions. Participants can apply for the assisted search on their »venture» profile page.

»venture» is an initiative of the ETH Zurich, McKinsey & Company Switzerland, Knecht Holding, the innovation promotion agency CTI, and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
