How Ludicious boosts the Swiss game industry

Ludicious - Zürich Game Festival has announced the eighteen nominated games out of 225 entries for its international and student competition. In addition details about the new section “Ludicious Business” and the Ludicious conference were published. The second edition of Ludicious will take place from January 21 to 24, 2016, in Zürich.

Ludicious aims to showcase the most innovative new games by independent studios from all over the world. This year’s «International Competition» nominees represent the best of contemporary game design, while the nominees of the «Student Competition» convince with innovative and daring new concepts. Ludicious will present the nominees for both awards in a free exhibition. The award ceremony will take place on January 23.

The following games are competing for the «Ludicious Award», worth € 8’000, in the «International Competition»: A Good Snowman is Hard to Build (GB), Californium (FR), Chalo Chalo (NL), Cloud Chasers (CH), Feist (CH), Lumino City (GB), Mushroom 11 (USA), Plug & Play (CH), Prune (USA) and Switchcars (RS). The jury for the «Ludicious Award» consists of the following three members: Jury president Ru Weerasuriya (Ready At Dawn Studios), Lea Schönfelder and Phil Elliott (Square Enix Collective).

The following games have been nominated for the «Student Competition», and compete for the «Outstanding Talent Award» worth € 4’000: Chronobot (FR), Circa Infinity (USA), Code 7 (DE), Dissonance (USA), FAR (CH), Maquisard (USA), Out of Sight (FR), Panda Lost in Space (CH). The student projects will be judged by jury president Brenda Romero (Romero Games), Eline Muijres (Dutch Game Garden), and Hendrik Lesser (Remote Control Productions).

«Ludicious Business» and M3 Match-Making Module
Within the new «Ludicious Business» section, the M3 Match-Making Module, co-organized with Game Connection and supported by the Engagement Migros development fund, will help developers connect with international investors, publishers and distributers. As part of the module, Swiss game developers will compete for the coveted «Game Connection Award» in the «Game Connection Pitch» on Thursday, January 21. The winner of the award will be given a pass to attend Game Connection for free, as well as an email announcement of their success to over 30’000 video game professionals.

In addition, panels, presentations and invitation-only matchmaking discussions will take place on Friday, January 22. Teams nominated in the Ludicious competitions will participate in the matchmaking as well as the supported projects of the «Call for Projects: Swiss Games» and other hand-picked projects. The panels and presentations will be integrated into the «Ludicious Conference». More information on the Match-Making Module can be found on biz.ludicious.ch

First Look: «Ludicious Conference»
Once again the «Ludicious Conference» will feature international speakers from various sectors of the gaming scene. Thursday and Friday will be held as part of the new «Ludicious Business» section, while Saturday is designated to game design and development. Both parts will feature keynotes by Jeff Hilbert (DDM), Brenda Romero (Romero Games) and Ru Weerasuriya (Ready at Dawn Studios). The following speakers will also take part: Phil Elliott (Square Enix Collective), Matt Dixon (Chillingo), Hendrik Lesser (Remote Control Productions), Lea Schönfelder, Eline Muijres (Dutch Game Garden), Jussi Tähtinen (Nitro Games). More speakers will join the line-up soon.

About Ludicious
The second edition of Ludicious will take place from January 21 to 24, 2016, in Zürich, Switzerland. Highlight of the festival will be the award ceremony for the «International Competition» and «Student Competition», as well as the presentation of the winner of the «SGDA Swiss Games Award» by the Swiss Game Developers Association (SGDA). An exhibition will showcase the games nominated for any of Ludicious’ competitions, as well as the selected projects of the «Call for Projects: Swiss Games 14/15». Numerous Talks and Workshops will also be held during the festival. Ludicious is an event by the association Zurich Game Festival (ZGF). Chris Bergstresser is president of the association.
