Global Founders Capital has backed companies such as Facebook, Slack or Revolut. Now GFC led the seed financing round of mybacs, a B2C biotech start-up specialized in the human microbiome and offering personalized products for intestinal health.

In February 2019, mybacs launched the world’s first regionally adapted synbiotics (combination of pro- & prebiotics) for the prevention of travelers' diarrhea. Based on scientific studies, the young company recognized that harmful pathogens differ greatly between various geographic regions. Therefore, mybacs could tailor good-natured bacterial cultures precisely to the respective pathogenic profiles. The 5-day treatment is taken in capsule form and is available for Africa & the Middle East, Asia, Europe & North America as well as Latin America.

In the first 6 months’ post launch, the startup has grown greatly. mybacs is selling their products through their own online shop (mybacs.co), Amazon, BRACK.CH and in numerous German and Swiss pharmacies, as well as in airlines to follow soon.

The new financing will be used for the launch of another product line, the expansion of personnel as well as increased sales and marketing activities. The investment was led by Global Founders Capital (GFC), one of the most successful Venture Capital firms in the B2C sector founded by Oliver Samwer. Over the past two decades, GFC has backed over five hundred entrepreneurs worldwide. Among them Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Eventbrite, Canva, Away Travel, HomeAway, Zalando, Revolut, Funding Circle, Lazada, Traveloka, Trivago, Jumia, HelloFresh, and Delivery Hero. In addition, existing angel investors have increased their investment.

Growth through product for daily needs

In the long term, the company intends to expand its product portfolio in the gastrointestinal health sector. This October a new product line for daily needs will be introduced to the market as a subscription service for consumers. In addition, one has the opportunity to track his health progress with the help of an app.
