Lausanne based Largo Films specializing in data-assisted moviemaking has obtained a CHF 100K Innogrant from the EPFL Vice Presidency of Innovation. The funding combined with the close collaboration with EPFL’s Image and Visual Representation Lab (IVRL) is set to boost the development of LargoAI next-generation storytelling technology.

This Summer Largo film was awarded an Innogrant by the EPFL Vice Presidency of Innovation. The grant includes 100K CHF financial support for the further development of the start-up. This award is only given to the start-ups having a strong connection with EPFL and running innovative projects with high business potential.

Contacted by Startupticker.ch, Sami Arpa, the CEO of the startup explains that “Getting this very competitive grant is a great honour for Largo. This grant not only provides us with some financial support, but it also allows us to keep Largo at the Image and Visual Representation Lab. Being part of the lab keeps our R&D side stronger and allows us to add new innovative features to LargoAI.” The CEO further explains that the funds will be used for the staff costs and development of LargoAI.

In the last months, the main focus of Largo has shifted from Sofy.tv to LargoAI. LargoAI provides data-driven intelligence to the movie industry with the proprietary technologies which show the recipes to success for the movies. As customers, the Vaud startup already has production houses and producers from the US and Europe. Speaking of Sofy.tv, Sami Arpa says it is still part of their strategic plan: “It's a great resource for the development of our AI tools. A data source and also a great movie laboratory. Its user base is organically growing and soon we will announce some important developments about it”

Largo is about to close its Seed Investment Round. Following that, the startup will have a US trip in September to meet some important movie studios as potential customers. Largo has also been selected to take part in some important events in September. More information will follow soon.
