Ceremony Friendship Ambassadors

During the celebrations for the Swiss National Day and 70 Years of Swiss-Indian Friendship, the Swiss Foreign Minister and Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis honored eight Friendship Ambassadors, who have contributed innovative ideas in their fields and continue to strengthen the relationship between Switzerland and India. Among them is Govinda Upadhyay, Founder and CEO of LEDsafari.

The Swiss-Indian Treaty of Friendship was signed in New Delhi on August 14, 1948. The Embassy of Switzerland to India and Bhutan officially celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the Friendship Treaty on August 10, 2018.  During this ceremony the Federal Councillor and Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis honors eight Friendship Ambassadors. He felicitates these outstanding personalities, who have contributed innovative ideas in their fields and continue to strengthen the relationship between Switzerland and India.

Among the ambassadors is Govinda Upadhyay, Founder and CEO of LEDsafari, a start-up from Lausanne. LEDsafari is a clean-tech social start-up that develops innovative digital products to help solar companies and organisations to manage their staff and assets. LEDsafari uses its innovative solar kits for education purposes, online training platform for skill development and IoT sensor for online monitoring of the solar devices

Govinda Upadhyay has been awarded several times by organisation from Europe, Asia and America. He has done three years of research in sustainable city planning in EPF Lausanne, a Masters in sustainable technology from TU Eindhoven and KTH Sweden. He did his Masters in physics and Bachelor of engineering in electronics and electrical from BITS Pilani, Goa campus, India.  

He comments: “I strongly believe that with adapted Swiss approach and technology, we will be able to accelerate the development goals in the world. Many times, we feel that the Swiss technology is expensive and not suited for the Indian condition but with the correct adaptation, it has potential to solve many Indian issues. I am very happy to apply this for energy access and empower our future generation towards sustainability.“
