Start-ups selected for the 50th Swiss Venture Day

For the 50th time, young companies will be introduced to investors as part of Swiss Venture Day on 9 September. A total of 10 start-ups with exceptional growth potential will present at the CTI Invest event.

Swiss Venture Day has once again gathered promising companies from very diverse industries; the spectrum ranges from biometrics to dental technology to wearable devices.

Swiss Venture Day will be held on 9 September at SIX Swiss Exchange in Zurich. An Angel Day will take place in the morning, with the topic Lean Innovation. More information on CTI Invest’s website.

Seven start-ups were selected for full pitches:

BIOWATCH SA is offering a new authentication solution based on wrist vein recognition and provides an alternative solution to current methods. The Swiss start-up gets a lot of interest from major players in the Automotive, Luxury Goods, Smartwatch and Corporate Enterprise Markets. Many of them are signing up to test the prototype systems later this year.

E.S. Concept has developed Digitarena. The technology processes video streams in real time, including replacing advertisement in the stream. It is able to capture the video stream of sport events and replace the perimeter board in real-time for a geographically tailored advertisement. The same event can be broadcasted to different regions with different perimeter boards.

Empower Semiconductor has developed an on-chip power management architecture that will re-define the cost, size and energy efficiency of voltage regulators for everything from low-power mobile applications to higher powered storage and server systems. The company with an experiences management team is addressing a $10B market for voltage regulators.

Innalign Medical is a scientific Swiss-based medical technology company focused on development, manufacturing and distribution of clear aligners for use with orthodontic specialists and general dentists. Aligners are a new kind of dental braces. The potential market for aligners is thought to be able to grow to $1.5-2b and already had a volume of more than $800m in 2014, grown from 0 US$ in 2000.

rqmicro provides a novel system for the rapid detection of water- and foodborne pathogens. The main USPs are superior sensitivity and a time to result of under one hour. Compared to the classic cultivation-dependent methods that require days for a result, rqmicro's approach yields results in a significantly shorter time with higher accuracy and lower detection limits.

ShoeSize.Me offers a plug and play solution to online shops that allows giving shoe size recommendations to customers whilst viewing shoes. By making online shoe shopping easier for customers the start-up boosts conversion rates and decreases shoe returns for online shops. The company has already customers in five countries.

Snowcookie is a wearable device which gives skiers advanced telemetry and ski analytics. The goal is to make skiing a better, safer and connected experience. Snowcookie dynamically assess skier’s body position and technique and provides live coaching through their headphones. More advanced skiers will benefit from detailed telemetry report available. In addition Snowcookie monitors skier's fatigue level, muscle reaction time and movement dynamics to make skiing safer.

 

Three companies were selected for shorter second pitches:

Amal Therapeutics uses its proprietary cell penetrating peptide platform to develop and progress therapeutic vaccines in oncology. Recently, a part of Amal’s research findings about a new type of recombinant protein cancer vaccines, was published demonstrating the proof of concept and showing the strength of Amal’s platform for the development of potent, safe and efficacious cancer vaccines.

Sanovation AG is a young start-up, dedicated to helping people who struggle with their health. Its electronic pain diary CatchMyPain allows tracking pain in a structured and visual way. CatchMyPain allows patients and medical practitioners to keep track of the disease and to learn from similar patients around the world. Thereby, research is being fostered using globally collected and anonymized pain information.

Stagend.com provides an online platform where practically anyone can book music artists for any occasion. The platform enables anyone organizing an event (live clubs, festivals, corporate events, private parties, weddings, etc.) to publish a ‘booking offer’, for which artists can apply. The matching artist and the event organizer can negotiate and close the deal directly on the site.
