Attolight has closed a new financing round. Investiere contributed CHF 1.47 million, making the online VC the biggest investor in this round. Additionally, existing shareholders as well as one new investors also joined this round.
Investiere was one of the first to recognize the potential of this EPFL spin-off and its cutting-edge technology and already participated in Attolight's angel round in 2010. Since then, investiere has contributed to a number of follow-on financing rounds and also helped Attolight identify and secure a key board member from the investiere network.
Inspection tools for semiconductor manufacturing
Semiconductors are the essential material of every electronic component. Yet defects during the production process render 5 to 50% of semiconductors (depending on industry segment) worthless. Due to the complexity of current detection methods, it is only possible to identify these defects weeks later. Attolight’s inspection tools are the first to detect defects—10'000 times smaller than a human hair—accurately and in real-time. This will allow manufacturers to immediately remove faulty semiconductors from the production line, saving valuable time and resources as well as accelerating the development of innovative new materials. Attolight’s tools are based on quantitative cathodoluminescence: a creative combination of electron and optical microscopy. Transition from fast, large scale characterisation, to nanometer scale inspection is seamless within the same tool.
