Startup founders and their innovative solutions impressed multiple juries from multiple competitions. Altoida’s CEO Antonella Chadha Santuccione is one of them. She received the Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award 2022 for her entrepreneurial efforts.

Altoidas CEO Antonella Chadha Santuccione has received the Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award 2022, an award that recognises and honours women entrepreneurs whose talent, boldness, and enterprising spirit have enabled them to successfully create impactful businesses around the world. Through Altoida, Antonella and her team are developing precision medicine to provide accurate and long-lasting treatments for those who suffer from brain and mental diseases. The next step in the journey is the creation of the "Sex and Gender Precision Research Institute." This will enable the company to provide better tools and support for healthcare professionals and patients and to be of greater service to all the women on the planet.

BioVersys wins Galapagos Award for Drug Discovery Chemistry
Visitors at the EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry witnessed BioVersys receiving the Galapagos Award for Drug Discovery Chemistry for their efforts in developing a novel mode of action anti-tuberculosis molecule (BVL-GSK098) from screening to now Phase 2 ready through a very successful and rewarding public-private partnership. BVL-GSK098 was developed from BioVersys’ award-winning Transcriptional Regulatory Inhibitory Compounds (TRIC) platform in a successful private-public partnership with GSK, the Institut Pasteur de Lille and the University of Lille. The drug candidate could lower the efficacious human oral dose of Ethionamide (Eto) by at least 3-fold, with the potential to significantly minimize dose-dependent side effects and improve patient compliance allowing to finally tap into the full potential of this 60-year-old drug. Plans to dose the first patient in Phase II trial I are underway.

aiEndoscopic wins the Falliing Walls award
Philippe Ganz, CEO and Co-Founder of aiEndoscopic is the winner of the Falling Walls award in Switzerland. He will represent the country at the Falling Walls Lab final in Berlin in early November 2022. His startup uses AI to train robotic endoscopes, such as those for tracheal intubation, to assist physicians during procedures. This could optimise such medical manoeuvres, making the outcome less dependent on the operator’s individual skills.

Alivion impresses the jury with methanol detector
Alivion is winner of the drinktec startup award, organised as part of drinktec, the world's leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid food industry. For the first time, start-ups had the chance to participate in the event and present their solution to the audience during five days. Alivion impressed the jury with its methanol detector, winning itself the first place in the pitching contest.

Three Swiss startups make it into the DCB Challenge top 20
The DCB Open Innovation Challenge 2022 aiming to support promising projects and start-ups tackling diabetes is underway. Following the application deadline, the program organisers have selected the top 20 contestants to proceed to the next stage. Hailing from 11 countries, the cohort included three Swiss startups. Chris Brucker from Diabmate is developing a Data Flow Manager for Teenagers and Young Adults with Diabetes Type 1, while Regula Spuehler from heyCompanion digitally accompanies people with Diabetes Type II or at risk of developing it in a personalised way, based on their diagnosis. Ventsislav Dobrev at diaBetter eCare, is developing a Population Health Management SaaS platform and a digital patient companion help T2DM (type 2 diabetes mellitus) patients who need to self-manage their prescribed regimen including the monitoring of symptoms/complications, BP, glucose and LDL-c, adherence to medication, diet, etc. At the same time it helps Interdisciplinary Care Teams who want to empower and activate patients and improve patient outcomes, QoL and experience by initiating active tele-surveillance and telerehabilitation of different T2DM risk groups.
