Having closed its 3rd investment round earlier this year and with the support of the Canton de Fribourg, Swiss Foodtech Alver is currently in production scaling up preparations at its new headquarters in AgriCo in Saint-Aubin, Fribourg. Startupticker spoke to its two co-founders Majbritt Byskov-Bridges and Mine Uran to learn more.

Swiss Foodtech Alver is thriving from Fribourg. In 2019 the startup launched its High Protein Penne & High Protein Fusilli. As the demand for gluten-free pasta is high, the two founders decided to launch in September Alver’s High Protein Gluten-Free Rigatoni. Alver co-founders expect sales for both kinds of pasta in 2021 to be CHF 100k. That is 65% higher than 2020.

"Having closed our third investment round earlier this year and being supported by the Canton de Fribourg, we are currently in production scaling up preparations at our new headquarters in AgriCo in Saint-Aubin, Fribourg", explains Majbritt Byskov-Bridge.

100% growth in revenue compared to 2019

Alver customers are mainly flexitarians who are looking for healthier, natural products that do both good to their bodies and do not harm the environment. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Alver co-founders noticed a growing number of individuals searching for immune system boosting superfoods such as Chlorella and Spirulina. Its Golden Chlorella is high in zinc, magnesium, phosphor, vitamin B and carotenoids which are very important to support the immune system. Alver products have become the invisible mask and sales have doubled these past months compared to last year revenue explains co-founder Majbritt Byskov-Bridges.

Many clients have switched from Spirulina and green chlorella to Alver’s Golden Chlorella because it is much easier to incorporate into daily meals for the whole family. Co-founder Majbritt Byskov-Bridges further explains: “This is due to the fact that our Golden Chlorella is neutral in color and in taste. It is ideal in smoothies, muesli, juice, vinaigrette, soups, sauces, bakery …”

Over 300 point of sales in Europe

On its website, Fribourg based foodtech has added all its point of sales which are over 300 across Switzerland, Germany, Denmark and France. The startup is currently launching its products in the Baltics and Poland.

While speaking to their customers, the company realized that many like to sprinkle Alver’s Golden Chlorella on their dishes. Therefore, the company will shortly be launching its Golden Chlorella shaker jar. A high protein muesli and newly formulated burgers and sauces are also in the launch pipeline in the months to come.
