The Swiss-Indian Academia-Industry Training Camp has awarded four deeptech startups from Switzerland and India for their outstanding solutions. The startups SurgeonsLab and cleantech Bloom Biorenewables each received grants worth CHF 10’000.

Twenty early-stage startups from Switzerland and India have graduated from the five-week AIT India program, dedicated to providing selected sciencepreneurs from various research fields with a platform to meet with industry experts. During the program, participants obtained training on vital topics such as scaling in new markets and they established new networks in Switzerland and India.

The intense business development program ended with a final pitch battle to award grants worth CHF 10,000 and INR 4 Lakh to two most outstanding companies from each county. The Swiss founders Fredrick Johnson Joseph from SurgeonsLab and Florent Heroguel from Bloom BioRenewables impressed the jury with their pitches and won the Swiss government’s grant.

SurgeonsLab is a Medtech startup based at the ARTORG centre at the University of Bern. The startup is developing simulation systems for neurosurgical training using patient-specific physical models. The solution will enable scientists to test, train, plan interventions and ultimately improve patient safety using high-end technology as an alternative to human and animal models.

Bloom BioRenewables is a spin-off from the EPFL developing the first technology to selectively convert the most abundant biopolymers on Earth – cellulose and lignin – into added-value chemical products. The team’s vision is to enable efficient utilisation of resources and promote a green and circular society.

Indian Medtech companies awarded
From India, the winners are: Aniran Palit from Pragmatech Healthcare Solutions, developer of CERVICHECK for Cervical Cancer Screening, and Neelesh Pandit from Technoceutics, a medtech company that provides a one-stop solution for the precise tinnitus matching and IoT-based platform for providing multimodal treatments.
