CYSEC, a specialist in data protection, particularly in confidential computing, has raised an additional €2m from Karista to establish itself in the NewSpace market. The proceeds from the round will also enable CYSEC to reinforce its sales teams in France and recruit new engineers and sales professionals.

Cyber attacks on earth and in space have remained a major threat to business and thus require addressing to protect sensitive data. Cysec, a confidential computing software provider, developed ARCA Trusted OS, an operating system that protects sensitive data at runtime via confidential computing.

The company provides services to various sectors, including financial services, critical infrastructure (IoT) and the space industry, where it seeks to boost its growth. It has entered partnerships with key industry actors to support the ambitious plan. The European Space Agency (ESA) has since 2020 supported the company in several strategic projects. CYSEC has also built a client base and honed expertise unrivalled in Europe to protect data obtained through NewSpace missions.

NewSpace commercial operators will benefit from the new technologies drawing on cloud computing on board their satellites. CYSEC is well-versed in this environment to which its security products are perfectly adapted. An early version of CYSEC’s edge computing was embedded on board a SpaceX rocket in January 2022 to be tested in actual space conditions.

The startup is now ready to deploy its solution in the space sector, thanks to the additional funding from Karisita, a Venture Capital firm investing in early-stage companies in France & Europe, especially in Digital, DeepTech, Healthcare and SpaceTech.

“NewSpace has grown at a brisk pace in recent years. Protecting sensitive data in space in a context of increasingly varied and rapidly evolving threats has become absolutely essential. Companies and institutions alike face major security and sovereignty challenges. We are pleased to support CYSEC in deploying its products designed to meet this challenge,” declared Karista Investment Director Michael Thomas and Managing Partner Yvan-Michel Ehkirch.
