Boldbrain Participants 2022

The fifth edition of the Boldbrain Startup Challenge, Ticino’s accelerator for early-stage startups, kicked off at Università della Svizzera italiana. 20 projects were selected out of 128 applications, confirming the trend of previous years.

The selection committee, composed of experts from different backgrounds, carefully examined all 67 valid applications. The selection criteria included the value and scalability of the idea, the degree of innovation, the business model, the quality of the team, and the team’s willingness to develop its business in Ticino. As a result, the 20 teams participating in the 2022 edition of the program were identified.

The projects presented by the teams belong to different innovative industry sectors, including Fintech, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and Biotech/Medtech. Among the selected startups, seven have a prototype, three are already on the market, and six are incorporated companies.

This variety of projects confirms Boldbrain’s positioning as a horizontal accelerator that does not focus on a single industry sector but on the ideas’ innovation potential and scalability. Also, several teams have previously been in contact with USI Startup Centre or Agire Foundation for project evaluation, which confirms that the Regional Innovation System works well.

The program kicked off last Thursday at the Auditorium of Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano. Over the next three months the 20 teams will work hard on their projects, followed by professional consultants (coaches). The coaches will support the teams in developing their idea and implementing different tools acquired during five mandatory workshops. The teams will also be called to participate in various meetings and events that mark the different phases of the program, but only ten of them will reach the Final Awards Ceremony scheduled for December 13th at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano.
