The handbook «Crowdfunding for Startups» provides a practical step-by-step guide for start-ups which have decided to use crowdfunding as a mean to raise money. The crowdfunding experts of 100-days have compiled tried-and-tested tips, which will help start-ups to promote and fund their project successfully.

Crowdfunding is getting more and more popular for Swiss start-ups. There are always several campaigns running at portals such as 100 Days, Kickstarter, Indiegogo, wemakeit and others. Some start-ups were very successful. Dacuda’s PocketScan, the world’s smallest wireless scanner, were pledged by 4,586 backers from over 67 countries and a funding of $542,732 has been raised, which is 1085% over initial goal with 3 stretch goals achieved. However a lot of start-ups didn’t even manage to raise CHF 10’000 with their crowdfunding campaign. This shows that it’s not easy to be successful.

The new handbook which was published this week by 100-days and Climate-KIC gives proven tips for the whole crowdfunding campaign. The handbook starts with the presentation of the project. It recommends to produce a short video which presents the project but shows also the persons behind it and their passion. The tips about the presentation are followed by chapters about the goodies, offline marketing material, helpful events such as a campaign launch party and a sponsor day etc.

The second part of the book contains tips and insights for start-ups along the timeline of a crowdfunding campaign. It starts with day one with tips such as “make the first donation yourself” or “change your profile picture on all of your social media platforms. This will stir up curiosity amongst your friends and contacts.” The last chapter is about the last ten days and gives tips for the end of successful campaigns as well as for those that failed.

In short: a very useful online handbook that will help everyone planning a crowdfunding campaign.
