Dacuda has unveiled the roadmap of its 3D software for smartphones. First partnerships that combine mobile scanning with 3D printing, personalized avatars in gaming, as well as the scanning of interior spaces will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Dacuda, a world-leading provider of computer vision technologies for 2D and 3D imaging, has unveiled the vision for its software 3D camera technology. The technology is able to turn any phone into a powerful 3D scanner that brings capabilities, comparable to time-of-flight or structured light hardware 3D cameras, to every consumer.

Selected parts of Dacuda’s software stack were already used in 3DAround – the leading 3D food photography app for iOS – and were successfully showcased at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain for scanning of faces. Soon, this software will be accessible to any consumer interested in its 3D camera technology and app-based scanning.

“We are bringing 3D use cases that were previously only accessible with specialized 3D cameras now to every smartphone and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality headset,” said Palo Alto-based Dacuda founder and President of Dacuda USA Erik Fonseka. “The first partnerships that combine mobile scanning with 3D printing, personalized avatars in gaming, as well as the scanning of interior spaces will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2015.”

At TEDxCambridge 2015 Fall event on October 8 in Boston, MA, Erik will give an exclusive preview of the upcoming features of the technology. The opening of the Dacuda US office will be jointly celebrated with Swissnex Boston's 15 year anniversary celebration on October 9 with press and invited guests.
