Largest Italian broadcast tower operator installs system of a Swiss start-up

Broadcast towers are an important infrastructure for every country. They transmit (analogue or digital) Radio and TV-signals from content providers in various frequency bands over the air. Today the radio signals in the broadcast tower are not monitored so that operators have no monitoring information and are not aware about any malfunction in their broadcast tower.

DAC System builds innovative broadcast monitoring solution and allows the operator to overcome these shortcomings. The first family of products monitor broadcast towers. Based on the unique and patent pending sensor technology, it is possible to monitor none invasively the radio frequency signals (rf) in the tower at the antenna input and at the power splitter/divider used for the distribution.

A second pilot of the system was now installed by RaiWay, the largest broadcast tower operator in Italy. The installation is monitoring 10 UHF Antenna’s in the tower of Castiglione in Sicily. With the patented sensor technology RaiWay is able to detect real time, on-line degradation and failures of the radio frequency (rf) installation feeding the antenna arrays. With the continuously recorded measurement results from the sensors, RaiWay is able to do preventive maintenance in case of lightning strikes or intrusion of water in the installation (cables, antennas, power dividers). These features are of great value for RaiWay, they allow to reduce drastically the time to repair major service breakdowns.

DAC System has installed in Sept. 2013 the first system at the tower in Terni/Umbria; after one year of successful operation RaiWay will extend the usage of the system and will installs the sensors at 3 other locations in Castiglione, Como and Aguliana.

DAC System was founded in 2013 and is incorporated in Lugano. The self-developed products of the start-up are manufactured in Switzerland.
