Skycell hybrid containers

Building on their pre-existing collaboration with "exceptional results", Skycell and US-based Unitrans have signed a new Master Lease Agreement (MLA) to lease self-charging, temperature-controlled hybrid containers. Pharma companies may look forward to a new sustainable transportation approach for delicate pharmaceuticals including vaccines.

Biologic medicine and vaccines rely on consistent temperature environments of between +2°C to +8°C or +15°C to +25°C and protection from vibration caused by vehicles. To ensure full efficacy, safety and compliance, Skycell manufactures and commercialises a hybrid smart container that has an independent run time of an average of 8.4 days, and offers the possibility to prolong the run time for an extended period through automatic recharge in a cooling chamber. This enables the hybrid to maintain the steady temperatures required throughout extensive shipments, even as it travels through varying climates. Coupled with the shock-absorbing feet on the bottom of the containers, the hybrid is offering much-needed peace of mind for companies shipping vulnerable pharmaceuticals to patients around the world.

The IoT (‘Internet of Things’) sensors integrated into each container provides shipping companies with better visibility and security of the shipments, even after the producers part with them. The sensors allow tracking the location of the shipment, its internal and external temperature conditions of the containers as they move around the globe.

Hybrid containers for Unitrans’ pharma clients
Since 2018, Unitrans International Logistics, the US-based AIT Worldwide Logistics Company, has been using Skycell’s hybrid containers for shipments of their most vulnerable pharmaceuticals. After seeing exceptional results, Unitrans is strengthening its relationship with the startup in a new Master Lease Agreement (MLA). The partnership will provide Unitrans pharma clients with the possibility to adapt to new industry requirements while reducing CO2 emissions and landfill. All SkyCell containers are almost entirely recyclable, helping to eliminate landfill by preventing product waste. Each hybrid shipment cuts carbon footprint by up to 50% due to their capability to charge independently of an external power supply, without the requirement of external power sources such as dry ice or electricity.
