Hackathons are continuously gaining popularity. Four Hackathons have already been confirmed for 2017. These include; SixHackathon, StartHack, Swiss Cultural OpenData Hackathon and Digital Festival. During the intensive days, teams of programmers, designers, tech-enthusiasts come together to work on their business ideas and develop new products.

A Hackathon is a 36 to 48-hours event that challenges young programmers, designers, tech-fans and code makers to find ideas and create projects in accordance with the prevailing topic. The 2017 Hackathons continue to bring vast opportunities for various types of individuals.

Planned Hackathons in 2017 are:

Open Food Hackdays,  10 - 11 February 2017 
Over 200 software developers, engineers, designer, nutritionists, civil servants, and entrepreneurs will gather to jointly develop new solutions for a transparent, efficient, and innovative food industry based on open data. The food opendata program includes three activities; the main event will be the Open Food Hackdays on 10 & 11 February 2017. Promising projects will be chosen to be incubated for three months. Prior to the event there will be a preparation module for everybody that is not yet that familiar with hackdays, open data, or food.The Open Food Hackdays will take parallel in Zurich at the new ZHdK building in the Toni Areal and Lausanne on the EPFL campus. Six Hackathon, Fintech, 10 - 12 March 2017 
Six Hackathon is designed for coders, entrepreneurs or creative thinkers who are looking for new challenges in the fintech sector. Registration coming soon.

StartHack, 17 - 19 March 2017 St. Gallen
Students or recent graduates from any university around the world are invited to participate in the StartHack 2017 to work on their ideas focusing on the topics Blockchain technology, Artificial intelligence, internet of Things and Virtual reality. At START Hack, the hacking starts at midnight on Friday and takes 35 hours until Sunday morning. Follow the link to pre-register.

Open Cultural Data Hackathon , 15 -16 September 2017 
Once a year, the Swiss OpenGLAM Working Group brings together data providers, software developers, digital humanists, artists, Wikimedians/Wikipedians, and anyone interested in Hacking, to experiment how cultural data and content can be used for research purposes, for web and mobile apps, in the context of Wikipedia, for artistic re-mixes, or for other forms of re-use. The Cultural Data Hackathon will take place at the University of Lausanne, in cooperation with the Laboratoire de cultures et humanités digitales, BCU Lausanne, infoclio.ch.

Hack Zurich 15 – 17 September 2017
HackZurich, one of the largest Hackathons in Europe will once again take place next year under the framework of Digital Zurich. During 48 hours makers and code shakers, tech fans and innovative startups from around the world come together to create an ecosystem of coding sessions, labs, workshops, parties and chill-outs.
