Verizon has announced the 2014 finalists in Powerful Answers Award’s Transportation category. One of them is Fastree 3D.
Verizon’s 2014 Powerful Answers Award (PAA) received thousands of entries from around the globe – each one vying for the chance to win a $1 million prize and an opportunity to change the world through innovations in education, transportation, sustainability and healthcare. Out of more than 1,870 submissions, ten inspiring finalists were chosen in the Transportation category.
Each of the Transportation finalists presented their ideas to a panel of expert judges for a chance to win $1 million and work with Verizon to turn their idea into a reality. The big winner will be revealed in late January.
Among the finalists is a Swiss start-up: Fastree 3D based in Lausanne. Fastree 3D aims at producing 3D cameras that enable vehicles and machines to recognize, locate fast moving objects in three dimensions in real-time, enabling safe and intelligent actions. The main objective is to open up to enable new applications in the field of automotive and machine vision.
The next-generation laser-based 3D sensors are promising to reach new levels of functionality with faster, more sensitive, lower cost and lower power consumption camera systems. They are complemented by embedded software to facilitate application development.
