"This needs to be sorted out"
Dear reader
We all know the standard complaint of the Swiss innovation ecosystem: although there’s enough seed money for start-ups, it lacks the money for Series A financing of between CHF 2 million and CHF 10 million. Dave Brown, the Swiss Business Angel of 2016, sees it differently. Read more in our interview.
One of Brown’s main messages is that VC funding requires stable growth prospects. A company that has that is EPFL spin-off DomoSafety. During the Korean trip by Johann Schneider-Ammann, the Lausanne-based firm announced that it had entered into partnerships with major South Korean healthcare players.
Meanwhile, life sciences company Amazentis announced a scientific breakthrough. An article in Nature Medicine, to which EPFL President Patrick Aebischer also contributed, shows that Amazentis is on the right track with its new anti-ageing ingredient.
Speaking of the future, in the weeks to the end of August the registration periods of various competitions will be running.
Two more competitions have also just been announced: from 2 to 7 September, the StartupBus Europe 2016 travels with 25 selected software developers and designers from Zurich to Cologne. The target is the Pirate Summit, ‘Europe's craziest start-up conference’. Applications are already open. The same applies to the StartCup Ticino, a competition for the best new business ideas in Ticino.
Have a good weekend
