Climate-KIC offers startups an 18 months programme over three stages. Start-ups have the opportunity to receive financial support of up to €95,000, coaching and access to an extensive relevant international network.
The Climate-KIC accelerator programme has supported more than 900 green startups like tado, Insolight or Smart Home Technology since 2010. It consists of three distinct stages of six months each offering an overall package worth up to €95.000 plus benefits (no equity taken). Furthermore, accepted startups receive professional pitch training and business coaching, as well as location-specific support in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Zurich or Vienna.
Registration for the Accelerator program is now open and will close on 13 August 2017. Eligible to apply are start-up teams with a technology or service with both commercial viability and climate impact. The company has to be less two years old for stage 1 and less than three years for stages 2 and 3. At least two co-founders must be committed to working full-time on the venture.
The three stages are:
Stage One: Business Model Development
The first stage of the Accelerator is intended to help early-stage Startups refine and develop their specific USP and business model. Here the first prototype can be finalised and assistance is provided to obtain industry feedback. This stage critically provides access to more mature startups in later stages of the Accelerator as well as to expert coaching, 1-2-1 mentoring and workshops, the Climate-KIC European contacts network and events.
Stage Two: Customer Traction
The second stage of the Accelerator helps move startups with a well-formulated business model to the next phase: validation and customer acquisition. Teams can now focus on acquiring their first customers and an iterative process of business model validation whilst receiving continuing support from expert coaches and mentors and participating in programme activities and workshops. These more mature startups will be able to display their ventures in several internal and external showcase events growing their individual network.
Stage three: Investment Readiness
The third and final stage of the Accelerator prepares businesses for a future of investment rounds and scaling. Teams get continued access to our office and meeting spaces, as well as to all events, coaching, mentoring and workshops. Startups in this stage of the programme are supported in preparation for negotiations with potential investors and partners and can tap into a huge network of investor contacts and partners.
Besides the regular events in the five locations, Climate-KIC offers at least three main occasions where startups come together and have a chance to exchange experiences, promote themselves beyond their local ecosystems and make valuable connections. These include the boot camp, the demo day and the investor dinner.
