CloudBroker platform rated number one ICT research innovation project in EU report.

The CloudBroker platform from the SCI-BUS project has been identified as the number one innovation in the report by the EU’s Innovation Radar, which focuses on identifying high-potential innovations in European ICT research projects.

The CloudBroker platform offers a unified interface and thus a single point of connection to commercial clouds and other high performance computing infrastructures. Within the SCI-BUS FP7 project, the platform has been extended to enable European scientific portals to use commercial and private cloud infrastructures for workflows and data processing. This technology is also used in the CloudSME FP7 project, part of the EU Factories of the Future initiative, where the platform enables manufacturing and engineering SMEs to use a range of simulation software.

CloudBroker GmbH, a spin-off of ETH Zurich, is one of the key technology partners in both the SCI-BUS and the CloudSME EU projects. It offers scientific and technical applications as a service in the cloud for use in fields such as biology, chemistry and engineering.

Ed: negotiations on Swiss participation in Horizon 2020, the EU’s 8th Framework Research Programme (FRP), were suspended in February 2014 due to the adoption of the initiative against mass immigration. An agreement signed in December 2014 for partial participation is valid until the end of 2016. If no agreement can be reached, researchers will no longer receive EU financial support.
