Qipp ag, the Internet of Things inspired ETH Zurich spin-off known for applying social networking technologies to physical things, has kicked off the year with the launch of the second version of its platform. Apart from an advanced UX, it integrates a service store, provides a growing number of app-building frameworks for several target industries and grants early API access to dedicated partners.

Qipp’s platform is called ALLTHINGS as of now, and can supercharge any kind of thing – skateboards, cars, industrial equipment, jewellery, furniture, and even entire homes – with digital information, services and communication capabilities. Made primarily for the 99% of non-connected things, the platform provides over 70 services that help owners make the most of their physical belongings. For example, ALLTHINGS can provide owners with digital product documentation, funny games, event-triggered automated notifications or hints regarding useful related product accessories.

Manfred Bausch, qipp’s CTO says: “ALLTHINGS consolidates several development streams we were pushing forward during the last nine months. On the backend side, the ALLTHINGS ENGINE manages all the things, and steers the processes based on the integrated lifelong services store. On the frontend side, ALLTHINGS offers a growing number of app-building frameworks to serve specific needs of different target industries.” The first two frameworks available are ALLTHINGS | BRAND and ALLTHINGS | SHARED. The ALLTHINGS setup is complemented by qipp’s own, horizontal end-user application ALLTHINGS | APP (beta) and early access to the ALLTHINGS API for dedicated partners.

ALLTHINGS | BRAND, which has been demoed already in November 2014, enables premium brands of durable goods to ship their products with services ex works. In doing so, they become more connected with their customers. Silvan Küng from the guitar manufacturer relish guitars says: “ALLTHINGS | BRAND enabled us to rapidly deploy our own service app. The app supports our customers in making the most of their guitar, and also gives us the opportunity to build up our brand community”.

Christina Geiger, in charge of the first implementation projects of ALLTHINGS | SHARED says: “With this app building framework we are focusing on sharing physical objects within organizations and associations. We let them offer their own sharing apps, which enable them to gain full transparency of sharable resources for a more sustainable and efficient usage.”
