Earlybird JACKDAW, a freeride tooring ski, is awarded ISPO GOLD WINNER 2015/16. It’s the best product in the category ski touring.

Earlybirdskis combines the latest eco-responsible rawmaterials to build skis at highest performance. On its Facebook page the company writes: “Conventionally produced skis consist of almost 100% ecologically problematic materials, which in our view does not match a "soft " sport such as ski touring. We focus on driving performance and weight of the currently available top products, but with the aim to manufacture the product as organic as possible.”

The company combines regional Swiss wood in a triplewood skicore, natural Swiss flax-fibres made by Bcomp instead of carbon or glass fibres, a biobased epoxyresin and a sintered graphit racebase made with recycled rawmaterials and a 100% biobased skiwax. The top-sheet is made out of robinia vaneer, all logos are branded. The finish is made with a two-component natural oil.

Every process of the production is made in Earlybirdski’s professional workshop near Bern. All skis are made to order.

One of the products of the Earlybirdskis, a ski named JACKDAW, was now awarded with the ISPO Gold Award at ISPO, the worldwide leading fair of the sports goods industry. Every year, ISPO honors the most exceptional sporting goods with the ISPO AWARD. A jury consisting of independent sports business professionals evaluates several hundred entries – also from non-exhibitors – following clearly defined criteria. This premium selection presents a welcome orientation for both sports business professionals as well as end-consumers. It serves as a reference for retailers when choosing their upcoming product range; to end-consumers, it is seen as an important purchase argument. Both trust the jury's neutral decision.

The description of JACKDAW from the website of Earlybirdskis: “The best of both worlds - lightweight on the inside, with all the characteristics of a freeride-oriented downhill ski on the outside. The JACKDAW is a reliable buddy on extended trips, the medium free ride width provides enough buoyancy for slopes covered in deep snow.”
