Schwyz based startup Oviva providing solutions for people with dietary-related conditions, has been selected for funding following the first phase of the IBD competition. The competition is designed to help companies develop new technology to address Inflammatory Bowel diesease (IBD). A sum of £75,000 has been awarded to Oviva together with four other selected startups.

NHS Scotland, in conjunction with Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Government launched a £400,000 IBD competition to support companies addressing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) challenges. The aim of the competition is to identify and fund innovative technology that enables personalised care, better education and remote monitoring for people living with IBD. The competition's organising team will collaborate with selected companies to develop new and innovative technologies to help patients monitor and manage their condition themselves, enabling them to access medical resources when they actually require it and have a higher quality of life. This competition has 3 phases. A sum of £75,000 has been allocated for phase 1, up to £135,000 for phase 2 and up to £150,000 for phase 3.

For the first phase of the competition, Oviva, a startup with headquarters in the canton of Schwyz, Switzerland is among the selected startups that will receive funding. Oviva, together with other four companies, will collaborate closely with patient groups, clinicians, GPs, dieticians and other members of the gastro community to develop their innovative ideas and technologies.

Oviva offers technology-enabled medical nutritional therapy by applying technology to improve patient experience, care efficiency and effectiveness. Oviva disrupts the traditional model by a proprietary technology to provide remote patient treatment via a smartphone app with an expert system support.

The startup developed an App dedicated to helping people with dietary-related conditions improve their health. Built on the Company's proprietary Support Platform, the Oviva Coach app is designed to help people with diabetes lose weight and improve their glycaemic (sugar) control, in close collaboration with their dietitian.

The app makes it easy for people to text their dietitian, record their food intake with photos, track their activity and weight, and record progress towards their goals. The dietitian monitors the inputs via a web-portal and provides tailored feedback, guidance and Support on a weekly basis. All of this happens through a secure channel. In addition to improving clinical outcomes, the app has the potential to increase access to care from a dietitian, and reduce costly missed appointments.
