A device and a platform helping car drivers to find free parking lots won the second edition of Hack the City in Lugano last weekend. About 50 “hackers” participated in the only hackathon in Ticino.

The second edition of Hack the City, the only hackathon of Southern Switzerland promoted by Tipiù within the Regional System of Innovation Ticino, ended this Sunday with the winners announcement. After 48 hours, the main prize, with a value of CHF 9’000 (thanks to Tipiù, AGE, BancaStato, CP Start-Up and ForexOclock), has been awarded to the team “Allora” — Giovanni Degiorgi and Jaro Serena — for their project named “SimplePark”.

The team presented a miniaturised device and a platform to help car drivers finding parking lots made available from other citizens. Its innovation is in the size, the price, a dedicated and smart protocol for signal and data transmission and a battery-life that could last for decades. In addition, they caught the essence of this year’s theme, “Living a City in the Digital Era”, by developing a concrete (and complete) solution to a problem people have to deal almost daily.

“Allora” also got the special mention of ISIN (Istituto Sistemi Informativi e Networking, SUPSI – DTI) for their broad and skilled use of a multi-stack technology.

Christian Puricelli won the RSI – Radiotelevisione svizzera prize, Hack Rete Tre, while team “JetMeOut” (whose members are Francesco di Biaso and Carlo Denaro) got two awards: lastminute.com group‘s best travel&tourism prize and Appway‘s best cross-channel experience.

45 attendees were in Piazza Indipendenza in Chiasso. They had the opportunity to meet and talk to mentors and experts in the field of digital innovation and also to have some rest in the lounge space after the many hours of coding. The quality of the ideas and the projects presented was really high. With the very positive feedbacks chances are good for another Hack the City edition in 2017.
